Summary - Virtual Presentation

Please join the us for the South Bay Chapter: IMA Ethics Workshop: Navigating Ethical Dilemmas on March 09, 2022 at 06:00 PM PST

Based on two (2) IMA Educational Case Journal (IECJ) studies, “Watson Water Technologies: Ethical Dilemma in the Workplace” and “Bonnie Morgen: First Day on the Job and Facing an Ethical Dilemma”, you will follow a fictional plot line that introduces Melissa Parks, an up-and-coming accounting/finance professional, as she navigates her career path and faces multiple ethical dilemmas along the way.

From her start as business office support for a public-school district in Chicago through her time at Watson Water Technologies (WWT), her father's place of employment, also, Melissa encounters various ethical dilemmas that require decisions to be made. Guided by her understanding of ethics, pieces of legislation, and sound advice from a close friend, you will follow Melissa's career path and evaluate each ethical dilemma by considering both fictional and real-life scenarios, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), Whistleblower protections, and working within the guidelines of the revised IMA Statement of Ethical Professional Practice.

The goal of the course is to appraise the importance of ethics in accounting organizations by examining ethical dilemmas in the workplace at various professional levels and analyzing resources or corresponding regulations to make ethical decisions. This course will create an appreciation for how an ethical framework and adherence to relevant legislation can contribute to the decision-making process and ultimately create an ethical organizational culture.
